The Bible says that “no one has ever seen God” (Jn.1:18). The reason is found in the words of Jesus, “God is Spirit …”(Jn.4:42). As Spirit, God is invisible to human eye. The Israelites did not see any visible form when God spoke to them from Mount Sinai. In fact, Moses, too, did not see the visible image of God. All he saw was a glimpse of God (Ex.33:19-23). Balancing the essentials calls for rigid self-discipline (2Tim.1:7) which is best illustrated by athletes in training. For the Olympic participants winning is to bring accolades to their countries and become glorified by International audiences. The secret of success of many Olympic medal winners is not only giving up unhealthy pleasures and secondary occupations, but also is about exercising the capacity to discern the balancing of the essentials, by allocating resources appropriately with an accurate mental appraisal of things in their relative importance and priority. |
